Harbor High School is proud to offer a comprehensive music program for students in grades 9-12, with a AA Concert Band, Concert Choir, and a Jazz Combo club. Students experience a broad range of musical styles from jazz to pop to classical. Many of our students are recognized at the local and state levels. Students rehearse throughout the year and perform in the community and around the state at competitive competitions.
Harbor High School Music Department strives to provide a well-rounded music education to all students. Students participate in a variety of musical experiences that will positively impact their life and provide them with a culturally aware outlook and appreciation for the arts. Participating in a performance ensemble gives students the opportunity to grow as a group and and as an individual. Students will create musical experiences that can never be completely replicated. This unique experience allows students to develop critical life skills such as individual and ensemble etiquette, problem solving, and collaboration.
All music courses are taught by Nick Bianchini, a local graduate of the Santa Cruz City Schools. Mr. Bianchini first started playing the trumpet in 4th grade at Westlake Elementary School and was hooked ever since. In college he went on to study music at the University of Southern California and California State University Long Beach where he receive a Bachelors of Music in Performance. In addition, Mr. Bianchini has spent many years traveling the nation playing with professional groups. He is now excited to be back in Santa Cruz teaching at Harbor High School and Branciforte Middle School.
The music department adheres to national and state curricular standards and is committed to introducing its students to technology and a broad range of musical experiences.
