Career Technical Education

Harbor High School offers a range of career technical education (CTE) courses. Some CTE classes are county-wide magnet classes run through the Santa Cruz County Office of Education (called ROP classes), and some exclusively Harbor High School classes.

What is CTE?
CTE courses are designed to provide students experience and training that will give them opportunities to explore classes, and prepare within broad career pathways. Learning experiences are designed to reinforce academic skills through applied learning that is career and job related. Learning takes place not only in the classroom, but also in the workplace where students develop strong work ethic and employability skills as they explore careers.   Students are engaged in both the technological and cultural changes that are part of our rapidly changing society.

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education, the California Department of Education, and state, federal and private grants, fund the program. CTE classes are offered at Harbor High and other Santa Cruz City Schools and ROP is managed from the Santa Cruz County Office of Education.   Classes are taught on high school campuses and high school students generally have first priority to enroll. Classes may be scheduled within the regular high school instructional day or in the late afternoons and evenings.
