English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

What is ELAC and How Do Parents Get Involved?

English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a school-based committee composed of parents and staff members, the majority being parents of English learners and reclassified students.  During the meetings, usually held once a month in the evenings, parents share concerns and suggestions for their students—while educators provide information, guidance and advice for the success of English Language Learner (EL) students.

Parental involvement is critical for the success of high school students!

  • Some parents may think that their students are old enough to take care of school matters on their own and that they don’t need to be too involved in their high school education.
  • Contrary to this assumption, research indicates that parents who are involved in their student’s education, the likeliness that their student will graduate from high school and go onto college are higher than those who are not involved.
  • If we want our students to be successful, we must promote education as the number one.
  • For information about the next scheduled meeting, contact Henry Michel at 429-3810 x1060.
